Fabric metres
shop sells whole metresType the sketchbook's Approx. Xm fabric required and what you own. Pick a fabric name and its shop price per metre fills in (359 fabrics, checked for Build 446).
Order profit
commission vs off-rackThe sketchbook's Reward (called Budget before Build 443) against what the dress costs you.
Opulence and Excess tracker (5,000 gold on one dress)
The achievement counts what you spend on one successful dress, and the game shows no meter. Spend so far on this dress: 410, so 4,590 to go.
Since Build 403 a commission still pays if the character accepts it, even when requirements fail.
How do I calculate fabric for a Dressmaker dress?
Take the Approx. fabric required figure from the sketchbook once your design is final, split it between your main and contrast fabrics, and subtract whatever is already in your stash. Add a waste buffer of about 10% because pieces must sit on the grain, then round up: the shop only sells whole metres. Multiply by the price per metre the shop shows. For profit, subtract fabric and accessory spend from the commission's Reward (called Budget before Build 443). If the Sell dress button offers more than the reward, selling earns more coins, but the client still needs a finished dress before the story moves on. The calculator above does all of this and remembers your last order.
- Need = sketchbook Approx. Xm line
- Buy = (need − owned) × 1.10, rounded up to whole metres
- Cost = metres bought × shop price per metre
- Profit = Reward − fabric − accessories
Where each number comes from

- Needed: the sketchbook's Approx. Xm fabric required. Split it across fabrics if the collar or sleeves use a contrast cloth.
- Reward: the coin figure on the same page.

- Price / m: shown in the fabric shop. The default (50) is Silk from this screenshot.
- Owned: metres already in your sewing-room list. It only displays the first 10 m.

- Sell dress offer: the number on the Dress Complete dialog. Leave it blank if you do not know it yet.

- Waste buffer: 10% suits most dresses; raise it for wide skirts that must stay on the grain.
Quality and off-rack estimates (community formulas)
These two use formulas players worked out, not numbers from the developers. Good for planning; the game's own figures win.
Quality estimate
Players report quality ≈ 30% grain + 20% fit + 50% sewing. Not confirmed by the developers.
Estimated quality: 91%
Off-rack price estimate
Community formula: (materials + labour) × quality% × prestige%. Use the real offer from the Sell dress button when you have it.
Estimated offer: 468 coins
Questions players ask
+Where do I find how much fabric a dress needs?
Open the sketchbook for the commission. Under the dress preview it says Approx. Xm fabric required (5.85 m for Prudence's Floral Romance). That line updates as you swap bodices, skirts and sleeves, so check it after the design is final.
+Why buy 10% extra fabric?
Pieces have to sit on the grain to keep Grain Quality at 100%, and rotated or wide pieces waste cloth between them. 10% covers most layouts; big ballgown skirts sometimes need 15%. Leftovers are not wasted: use them on off-rack dresses (money guide).
+Does the shop sell half metres?
No. The fabric shop sells whole metres (the store screenshot shows 2 m of Dusty Pink Silk for 100 coins), so the calculator rounds every fabric up.
+Why does my fabric list only show 10 m?
The sewing-room list only displays the first 10 m of a bolt. If you bought more, it is still there. Players reported this on the Steam forums; it is a display quirk, not lost fabric.
+Are fabric prices the same for everyone?
Yes. Each fabric has one fixed shop price per metre: most Cotton is 10, Linen 20, Wool and Lace 30, Sequin 40, Silk 50 and Velvet 80. Type a fabric name in the calculator and its price fills in. The full list of 359 fabrics, cross-checked between two player databases for Build 446, is on the fabric price list.
+How accurate are the quality and off-rack estimates?
They use community-reported formulas that the developers have not confirmed. Treat them as a rough guide and trust the in-game Sell dress number when you see it. For hitting 100%, read the quality guide.
