Dressmaker unlocks by friendship star
Ten clients, five stars each. This is what every star gives you, so you know whose commissions to chase.

How do you unlock new patterns in Dressmaker?
New pattern pieces unlock through friendship stars. Each of the ten clients (Rose, Prudence, Priya, Marie, Edith, Dorothy, Fiona, Alice, Vivian and Adora) has stars from 1 to 5, shown under their portrait. Completing their commissions raises the stars, and each star adds two to five new bodices, skirts, sleeves or collars to the sketchbook. Most clients give nothing extra at five stars; only Prudence (Bolero Bodice) and Priya (Flared Begonia Bodice) do. The piece most players hunt for is Priya's three-star Ruffle Skirt, which you need for the Sew Long achievement. The lists below come from two player guides that agree with each other; if a name differs in your game, trust the game.

How friendship stars go up
Stars rise when you complete a client's commissions. Each client has their own story line, so stars come steadily as you play the story; nobody needs grinding. The friendship stars sit under the client's portrait in the shop (see Prudence's card).

What you start with
Before any stars you already have 14 bodices, 6 collars, 8 sleeves and 10 skirts, including the Princess, Sweetheart and Strapless bodices and the Circle, Mermaid and Gathered Ballgown skirts. The pattern list marks them as Starter.

Reach three stars with Priya. Finishing your first complete ruffle skirt unlocks the Sew Long achievement.
+Why can't I use a collar I unlocked?
Some collars only fit certain bodices; the Gothic and shirt collars need a deep-V bodice. See collar compatibility.
+Do I get anything at 5 stars?
Only from Prudence (Bolero Bodice) and Priya (Flared Begonia Bodice), per the player guides.
+Can I miss unlocks?
No missable unlock is reported. Stars follow the story commissions.
